The Smeds and the Smoos wins International Emmy Award

The Smeds and the Smoos wins an International Emmy Award in Magic Light Pictures’ 20th anniversary year.

Smeds and the SmoosOn the 21st November, Magic Light Pictures’ animated film, The Smeds and the Smoos, won the award for Best Kids Animation at the 51st International Emmy Awards at the gala ceremony in New York City.

This is the fourth International Emmy for Magic Light Pictures – with previous wins for Room on the Broom, Revolting Rhymes and most recently Zog.

The Smeds and the Smoos, based on the book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, was watched by nearly 8m viewers on BBC One and has since been sold to 91 territories and will be shown by ZDF in Germany this Christmas.

Collecting the award in New York, Martin Pope, co-founder and joint CEO of Magic Light Pictures, said: “It’s a huge honour to have won a fourth International Emmy Award, which is a reflection of the brilliant work on The Smeds and the Smoos by our directors, cast and crew. The Smeds and the Smoos was narrated by Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins and featured a stellar voice cast including Adjoa Andoh, Bill Bailey, Daniel Ezra, Ashna Rabheru, Meera Syal and Rob Brydon. Based on a timeless theme about a love which overcomes division, the film was directed by Daniel Snaddon and Samantha Cutler, screenplay by Julia Smuts Louw and produced by Martin Pope and Barney Goodland.
