Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG releases first new monster since 2017

Published on: 1st August 2023

New Duelist Nexus booster sets debut Illusion monsters, the first new monster type for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG since Cyberse monsters in Starter Deck: Link Strike.

Konami Digital Entertainment has announced that Duelist Nexus is available now for the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game (TCG) in Europe and Oceania. The new booster set debuts Illusion monsters, the first new monster Type for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG since Cyberse monsters were introduced over five years ago.

Illusion monsters cannot be struck down in battle. They can’t defeat other monsters in battle either, but harm them in other ways instead. Nightmare Magician, for example, is an Illusion monster that gives Duelists control of any other monster it battles. It can also destroy any other card on the field if another monster attacks.

Duelist Nexus also introduces Quarter Century Secret Rares to core boosters for the first time; 25 cards will be available as Quarter Century Secret Rares, to represent 25 years of the Yu-Gi-Oh! card game. It will feature new cards inspired by the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s, new Infernoble Knights and Dinosaur cards and a brand-new World Premiere theme.

The complete set includes 49 Common Cards, 26 Super Rare Cards, 14 Ultra Rare Cards and 10 Secret Rare Cards. 24 cards will also be available as Quarter Century Secret Rares, and one special card will only be available as a Quarter Century Secret Rare.
