Cartoon Network’s Toon Cup has launched its very own Girl Power Tournament centering around female empowerment in an ode to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Cartoon Network is refreshing the popular Toon Cup game with a Women’s World Cup theme, running from now until the 17th of August. During this time, kids can create a team and play for their favourite country in the Girl Power Tournament. Players around the globe can accrue points for their chosen country and at the end of the tournament, the top three countries will be announced.
Two new playable characters will be introduced in the Toon Cup game: Ivandoe from the Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe and Bumblebee from Teen Titans Go! They join Toon Cup stalwarts Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup (The Powerpuff Girls), Marceline and Princess Bubblegum (Adventure Time) and Anais (The Amazing World of Gumball).
Debuted during the 2018 World Cup, the free mobile game app lets players choose a country and build a fantasy football team using their favourite Cartoon Network characters. They can tackle the ball, dribble, pass, shoot and unlock new characters, balls, and stadiums by earning coins. Since its debut, the app has amassed 90m downloads, with 2.6m active monthly users and 12.9m downloads in 2022.
Cartoon Network says its new Toon Cup refresh aims to celebrate Girl Power and inspire kids who love football across the globe. The app is available in 27 languages in the EMEA, APAC and LATAM territories on the App Store, Google Play and the Web.
Fans can also immersive themselves in the football game on the virtual gaming platform Roblox. With a newly launched football experience on the Cartoon Network: Game On!, kids can now play Toon Cup in the metaverse.
