Published on: 21st July 2023

The celebratory Hey Duggee Football Song is available on YouTube, BBC iPlayer and music streamers from today.

BBC Studios Kids & Family and BBC Studios Social has announced that the seven-time BAFTA and international Emmy award-winning hit CBeebies series Hey Duggee has released a new football song today to celebrate the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023. The track is called Hey Duggee Football Song and is available now on Hey Duggee YouTube. Additionally, it will feature on CBeebies YouTube, BBC iPlayer, Spotify, Apple Music and other music steamers from today (21st July).

Hey Duggee Football Song is an inclusive and celebratory take on the beautiful game intended to inspire kids. The voice of Hey Duggee narrator Alexander Armstrong, as well as vocals from series regulars Lucy Montgomery, Anelisa Lamola and the Squirrels, feature on the catchy track. There are also brief cameos from the BBC Breakfast sport presenter Mike Bushell and sports commentator Vicki Sparks.

Simon Clarke, head of Digital Content, Kids & Family at BBC Studios Social, said: “With football being a team sport that encourages collaboration and play, we felt putting out a celebratory and inclusive football song to coincide with the Women’s FIFA World Cup is a perfect match with the Hey Duggee brand.”

Mike Bushell added: “It’s a really catchy tune and I’m sure it will help get young and old singing along in support of the Lionesses.”

This is the second football anthem Hey Duggee has released. During the 2018 World Cup, the Hey Duggee Kick Song became an unofficial anthem for the tournament. It also captured the attention BBC Breakfast, BBC Newsnight and BBC Radio 1.

This is the latest of over 30 original Hey Duggee songs which can be streamed on BBC iPlayer and have collectively amassed over 19m views on YouTube. It will also be available on the official Hey Duggee YouTube channel which has 1.72m subscribers.

A new Hey Duggee YouTube short called The Offside Badge, features commentary from BBC Football commentator Vicki Sparks (BBC Sport, BT Sport, BBC 5Live). Vicki Sparks said: “Duggee and the Squirrels have done a great job of explaining the offside rule to kids in this entertaining short (and what a goal, by the way – well done, Squirrels!) As we head into hopefully another brilliant summer for the Lionesses at the Women’s World Cup, I hope this episode will be enjoyed by all Duggee fans.”

Created by Grant Orchard, Hey Duggee is made by Studio AKA with BBC Studios Kids & Family and CBeebies. It’s the top performing CBeebies show on BBC iPlayer for the third year in a row and has also made the leap from screen to stage with Hey Duggee The Live Theatre Show, which is currently touring the UK and recently won an Olivier Award.

Hey Duggee Football Song is commissioned and produced by BBC Studios Social and is part of a wider portfolio of original short-from content commissions, covering diverse genres from nature, science and fact entertainment, to kids, drama, and comedy.
