Dungeons & Dragons movie hosts UK premiere in London

Published on: 27th March 2023

Last week saw the cast and directors of the movie walk the red carpet in Leicester Square ahead of the launch of Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves later this week.

Licensing.biz was invited to the premiere of the new Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves movie in Leicester Square last week. The film, which arrives in UK theatres this Friday 31st March, features a glittering cast of heavyweight actors, including Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant, Rege-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis and Daisy Head. The cast, together with directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, were out in force at the event, all speaking enthusiastically about the movie in interviews from the red carpet beforehand.

The film itself was thoroughly enjoyable: it had plenty of action and high production values, as you would expect from a movie which cost in excess of $150m to make. But it also had a lot of heart and some nice self-deprecating humour, which you don’t always get with the fantasy genre. Although I am by no means a Dungeons & Dragons aficionado, I got the impression there was plenty in the movie to excite the hardcore players, while it was also accessible enough to appeal to a wider audience.

Critics have given the movie a warm reception, with one describing it as “the biggest surprise of the year”, while another called it “a crowd-pleaser and critical darling of the season”. Preview audiences have also given the film a resounding thumb’s up.

Well done to everyone at Hasbro, eOne and Paramount Pictures for delivering a film that will not only bolster the franchise amongst its core fanbase, but also bring new players into the world of Dungeons & Dragons to ensure its continued popularity.
