Star Trek Day marks 56th anniversary of series debut

Published on: 9th September 2022

Paramount launched a campaign to celebrate Star Trek Day on Paramount+ as the global home of the Star Trek universe.

Paramount has announced a wide ranging marketing and social media campaign with a host of events which expand and broaden the Star Trek universe beyond the celebrations planned for Star Trek Day which started 8th September. It marks the 56th anniversary of the iconic franchise’s TV series debut and saw fans from around the world join together for a global live-streamed celebration.

Marco Nobili, executive vice president and international general manager of Paramount+, said: “There’s a Star Trek show for everyone on Paramount+, whether it’s the iconic first ever series or brand new originals Prodigy and Strange New Worlds. We couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to cement Paramount+ as the global home of the Star Trek universe and reaching new audiences and existing members of the Star Trek fandom.”

In a variety of ways, Paramount is supporting the initiative across multiple lines of the business, including Paramount+; Events & Experiences and Consumer Products. There will be a TV spot advertising campaign, playing across 5STAR showcasing all the incredible content available on Paramount+ as part of the Universe. The campaign will also run within a Saturday evening Sci-Fi movies season running for five weeks from 10th September.

There will also be a partnership with the Science Museum where there will be an interactive experience to build excitement ahead of the launch of the exhibition, Science Fiction: Voyage to the Edge of Imagination which opens on 6th October 2022. Visitors to the museum will be able to enter one of the three Star Trek Deltas featuring QR codes that, when scanned on Instagram, transform objects into mixed-reality portals that bring the user into the world of Star Trek.

Glyn Morgan, curator at the Science Museum, said: ‘We’re delighted to be displaying iconic objects from Star Trek in our major exhibition opening on 6th October which uncovers fascinating connections between significant scientific innovations and celebrated science fiction works.”

There will be a pop-up store throughout the event where a range of consumer products will be available to complement the Science Museum experience. This will offer exclusive merchandise across the different series and will include t-shirts, caps, bags, hoodies, badges, pins, books and posters.

Forbidden Planet celebrates Star Trek Day with the launch of two new apparel lines and a branded online store shop featuring collectible toy, apparel, publishing and accessory ranges. Additional activity includes in-store promotions, competitions, social and media activity across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and TikTok and social media across Meta and YouTube which will run for a month.
