Rocket Licensing sees ‘huge growth potential’ for The Young Offenders

Rocket Licensing has been named the licensing agent for the hit comedy series The Young Offenders on behalf of its brand owner, Rotator.

The licensing outfit has already spotted strong potential for the brand’s licensing programme in Ireland as well as a growing strength for a campaign in the UK market as a new series readies to land on screens this year.

Potential categories for licensing include apparel, dress-up, gifting and homewares, social stationery, calendars, accessories, games and puzzles and ringtones and apps. An initial range of product is expected to coincide with the launch of the second series.

The Young Offenders follows the coming of age adventures of Conor and Jock as they navigate their teenage years in Cork, Ireland. It began life as a film in 2016 when it became a breakout hit in Ireland, hitting €1.3 million at the Irish box office.

The six-episode TV series first aired on BBC Three and BBC One as well as Ireland’s RTE in February last year. It quickly became one of the top five most watched shows on iPlayer, resonating with its core market of 16 to 30 year old males.

Charlie Donaldson, joint managing director at Rocket Licensing, said: “The Young Offenders enjoys extraordinarily high – and growing – levels of awareness. The Irish market in particular has embraced this property wholeheartedly, while the BBC is giving strong backing to further series.

“With a great platform and huge popularity, we see fantastic potential for licensed output in Ireland and the UK and are excited to be working with Rotator.”
