Mattel celebrates 40 years of E.T. with new collectible plush

Published on: 25th October 2022

E.T. has charmed audiences of all ages since it was first released back in 1982, with this year marking four decades since the movie and its loveable alien first landed.

e.t.The beloved 80s blockbuster E.T. returns to UK cinemas this year to charm a new generation of moviegoers, as well as allowing older generations to relive the nostalgia of the blockbuster movie.

Celebrating the cinematic masterpiece E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Mattel has launched a stylised E.T. character plush featuring sounds and a light-up finger. The stylised soft doll measures approximately 11″ tall and features a plush body and moulded plastic head. Fans can press its finger for a soft red glow, and to hear iconic movie phrases such as ‘E.T. Phone Home’.

Jan Jauregui, manager of product design at Mattel, said: “We went through dozens of sketches and stylisations because we wanted to make sure that we captured E.T.’s sweet, child-like innocence through the sculpt. Aside from making his proportions even cuter, with a larger head and smaller body, we put a lot of emphasis on his eyes.”

The company says that as the story of E.T. is one of childhood and growing up, it’s ‘fitting that fans can own their very own E.T. and relive the nostalgia of this classic story of friendship and adventure’.

To celebrate the movie’s 40th anniversary, Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is back in cinemas with a special celebratory event going back to the 80’s, and a limited-edition IMAX screening at selected Odeon cinemas.
