LIMA launches first licensing focused course with UCLA

The International Licensing Industry Merchandiser’s Association (LIMA) has partnered with the University of California Los Angeles to offer a dedicated course for licensing professionals.

The 12 week course called Licensing Entertainment: Strategies for the Global Marketplace, will be led by licensing and marketing veteran, Kenneth K. Markman, CEO of KKM Global Brand Strategies.

Markman boasts an illustrious career in the licensing arena, having held senior marketing posts at Universal Studios, 20th Century Fox, MTM Entertainment, J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency and Mattel Toys.

Featured speakers will include Elie Dekel of Saban Brands, George Leon and Greg Economos of Sony Pictures Consumer Products, Henry Stupp from The Cherokee Group and Tim Kilpin form Mattel.

Furthermore, Russell Binder from Striker Entertainment, Howard Bollon of Networked Insights, Jim McCafferty from JMP Creative and Fred Fierst of Fierst, Kane and Bloomberg LLP will all be on hand to impart their industry knowledge.

“We are excited to be working with UCLA Extension on this educational programme,” said LIMA president Charles Riotto. “This new course provides a wonderful opportunity of entertainment property owners, agents, lawyers and producers who want a deeper understanding of the business principles of licensing to get the information they need directly from the experts.”

The course will be held at UCLA on Tuesday evenings from January 6th to March 24th, 2015.

Licensing professionals interested in taking the course must have a fundamental understanding of and experience in the licensing industry.

The price for LIMA members who register by December 6th, 2014 is $489. The cost will increase to $545 after that date.
