The studio goes head to head with Disney who is also producing a retelling of the Rudyard Kipling story.

Andy Serkis to direct Warner Bros’ Jungle Book

Warner Bros has revealed that Andy Serkis is to make his directorial debut as he steps behind the camera for its own retelling of the Jungle Book.

Based on the stories of Rudyard Kipling, the Warner Bros project is racing head to head with its rival Disney, also producing a new version of the movie.

Warner’s Jungle Book is said to be darker than its rival, a film that has already announced Iron Man’s Jon Favreau as its director and British actor Idris Elba as the voice of the tiger Shere Khan, reports the Guardian.

While the film will mark Serkis’ first foray into lead direction, the actor and CG motion capture specialist has won plaudits for his second unit direction on Peter Jackson’s Hobbit trilogy, which included the barrel sequence in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
