Rovio Entertainment has seen licensing revenue grow 17.8 per cent to €7.9 million in its most recent interim report from July to September this year.
Rovio’s total revenue saw 0.5 per cent growth year on year to €71 million, as its games segment revenue hit €63.1 million.
Rovio’s biggest game, Angry Birds 2 gross bookings grew for the third consecutive quarter and 68 per cent year on year to reach a record number of €30.8 million.
While the quarter’s results are positive for the form’s licensing arm, it still has some way to go to match the peak the division saw in 2017 at the peak of the Angry Birds Movie. From January to September this year, brand licensing revenue declined as expected year on year to €23.3 million.
Brand licensing revenues are expected to decline by approximately 37 per cent in 2018. The decline is due to the declining revenue profile of the Angry Birds Movie. The consumer products revenues are expected to be at similar level as in 2017.
The focus of brand licensing in 2018 is preparing the licensing portfolio for 2019 and The Angry Birds movie sequel.
