Digital collectables company Ecomi welcomes licensing veteran Alfred Kahn as strategic advisor

The blockchain company committed to creating the world’s leading platform to pay, protect and collect licensed digital collectables, Ecomi, has welcomed licensing industry veteran, Alfred Kahn to its team.

A notable figure in the world of licensing and a member of the Licensing Hall of Fame, Kahn is recognised widely as the man responsible for bringing Pokémon and other popular franchises to the world outside of Asia.

He has joined the Ecomi team as strategic advisor as it looks to build its Singapore-based operation in bringing licensed digital collectables to market.

“The magnitude of blockchain technology will disrupt the collectables industry by giving licensed brands another platform to sell and protect their digital IP,” said Kahn.

“Ecomi will set the standard in this space.”

Kahn is currently the CO of CraneKahn LLC, an intellectual property development and marketing company. Throughout his career, he has been a figurehead of the industry having founded 4Kids Entertainment, a global provider for children’s entertainment and merchandise.

His name has bee attached to the likes of Pokémon, Cabbage Patch Kids, Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles and Yu-Gi-Oh.

He has also represented and developed licensing programmes for iconic brands like Nintendo: Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong, James Bond, WWF, Monster Trucks and Polly Pocks. His products have grossed more than $15 billion in sales.

“Alfred has a true talent for making franchises explode in popularity,” said Daivid Yu, CEO of Ecomi.

“We are excited to begin working together to bring a whole new world of licensed global digital collectables to Ecomi Collect.”

Ecomi has already partnered with digital creators Tokidoki and is in the process of finalising contracts with a swathe of other brands.

It intends to capture the digital collectables market in categories like character and entertainment, corporate brands, fashion, publishing, digital art, sports and gaming.

It uses AR technology to bring collectables to life on its platform.
