Rogue One helps Disney set $7b box office record

Rogue One’s impressive first weekend was enough to set an all-time box-office record for Disney, topping a total of $7 billion in 2016.

The company has dominated the box office this year with such hit films as Zootopia, Captain America: Civil War and Finding Dory, all of which grossed over $1 billion. The company’s box office output was bolstered by other releases including Doctor Strange, Moana and The Jungle Book.

Not all of the studio’s films were box office successes, The BFG and Alice Through The Looking Glass were notable dissapointments, but did not detract from the company’s stellar profits.

Alan Horn, chairman of The Walt Disney Studios, said: "This historic achievement is possible because all of our film studios are bringing their absolute best to the table, telling great stories of all kinds that resonate with audiences across borders, gender, and generations," reports Fortune.
