Snowdogs auction raises almost £600,000 for charity

Two charity auctions were held on Tuesday evening in Newcastle and Brighton to raise money and awareness for local hospices. Together the two auctions raised just shy of £600,000.

The Sage Gateshead hosted The Great North Snowdogs auction and raised £260,000 for St Oswald’s Hospice. The highest price paid in Newcastle was for Disco Dog, designed by mosaic artist Natalie Guy, which sold for £9,200.

Meanwhile, the Snowdogs by the Sea were auctioned at the Brighton Dome Corn Exchange and raised £337,000 for Martlets Hospice. The highest bid was for ‘Max’ by Sarah Arnett which raised an incredible £22,000.

The two cities played host to the Snowdog Art Trails, public sculpture trails organised by Wild in Art and The Snowman brand owner, Penguin Random House.

Damian Treece, brand manager for Snowman Enterprises at Penguin Random House was in attendance of the Newcastle auction.

He said: "Wild in Art has put together the most fantastic experience for the public to enjoy this winter. We are hugely grateful to everyone involved in the Snowdog art trails, from the artists who created such creative and distinctive sculptures, to the generous sponsors, the project teams at both hospices and the legions of volunteers and participants."

Wild in Art have also produced a range of collectible Snowdog figurines, miniature versions of the street sized sculptures, which are available on their website.
