Sony Pictures Television is extending the distribution of its pre-school children’s channel, Tiny Pop, on the national Freeview platform.
Set to fully launch on January 7th 2015, Tiny Pop will be available on Freeview channel 126 across the whole UK. This extends SPT Networks’ reach of children’s programming on Freeview to two channels, with POP – aimed at older kids – already available on channel 125.
Announcing the launch, Kate Marsh, SPT’s EVP, Networks, Western Europe, said: “This extended distribution on Freeview marks our commitment to continue to invest in our UK networks business. With the extension of Tiny Pop, SPT’s reach on Freeview now spans five channels, and the introduction of this well-loved and established channel enables us to deliver a quality and fun alternative for families in Freeview homes.”
Tiny Pop is targeted at children aged three to seven and has a diverse portfolio of programming. Key titles include My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic and Care Bears: Welcome to Care-a-Lot.
The channel also aims to engage with parents via packaging programming in blocks which mimic the flow of a child’s day. Cuddle Time for example, slows down the pace of programming in the early evening allowing kids, mums and dads to enjoy calmer family favourites before bedtime. In addition, Tiny Pop drives engagement and extends its reach through online platform tinypop.com, a fun and interactive website.
Tiny Pop was acquired as part of SPT’s purchase of CSC Media Group earlier this year. The deal added 16 channels to SPT’s extensive portfolio spanning across kids, music, movies and entertainment genres, and turning SPT Networks into the fifth largest cable, satellite and multichannel player in the UK market measured in commercial ad views. Tiny Pop, which will air daily, originally launched on satellite in 2004 and is also available on Sky 617, Virgin 737, Freesat 605.
