Having been on cinema screens for 11 weeks, Universal’s Despicable Me 2 has now become the third biggest animation of all time in the UK, reports Screen.
The sequel now sits on a total of £45.4m, leapfrogging Toy Story 2’s £45.3m. Ahead of it is the UK’s second biggest animation Shrek 2, with £48.1m.
Despicable Me 2 has been breaking all sorts of records since arriving at the end of June when it became the biggest opener of the year in the UK, and the best ever opening weekend for a Universal movie in the UK.
At the end of August, it also moved past Les Miserables to become the biggest film of 2013 so far in the UK.
Universal will be hoping the Minions inspire similar box office gold when they star in their own movie, called Minions, next year.
